É assim que Maurício me apresenta o Pinkullo. Este chileno se destaca em meio a atribulada praça de San Telmo em Buenos Aires.
Os instrumentos que Maurício expõe, por si só já inspiram respeito.
Maurício fala de sua ancestralidade e de sua relação com o barro com paixão e poesia. Fala sobre um tempo em que a lua regia o poder detido pelas mulheres, quando estas governavam o mundo... Explica os símbolos desenhados no instrumento... Fala sobre “a respiração” do barro durante o processo de secagem e confecção dos instrumentos, do brunido que resulta em um acabamento macio e brilhante "como uma pele", que depois da queima com atmosfera rica em carbono resulta numa cor enegrecida.
Mas é quando ele toma o instrumento, primeiramente com uma escala perfeita e em seguida com uma música andina, que toda a mágica se revela com o som nostálgico de uma cultura milenar, um som que não precisa mais de palavras para se fazer entender.

That's how Maurice introduced me to Pinkullo. This Chilean guy stands out in the middle of ever crowded Plaza de San Telmo in Buenos Aires.
The instruments that Maurice exposes really inspire respect.
Maurice talks with passion about his ancestry and his relationship with the clay, like a poet. He talks about a time when the moon governed the power held by women, when they ruled the world ... He explains the symbols drawn on the instrument ... And talks about clay “breathing”, during the drying process and making of..., the burnished finish, resulting in a soft and shiny "like a skin," surface... that after the wood firing in a carbon rich atmosphere, results in a color blackened.
But it is when he takes the instrument on his hands, first with a perfect scale and then with an Andean music, that all the magic show up with the nostalgic sound of an ancient culture, a sound that needs no words to be understood.
