Chawan

 Do barro amassado,
moldado e formado
E para o chá pensado.
É peça
É parte
É arte.

Raku Chawan

"It could be that continuity of tradition is mere semblance. But then precisely the persistence of this semblance os persistence provides it with continuity."

Walter Benjamen, The Arcades Project.

"A Chawan is a utensil, but it is also akin to an instrument inasmuch as it is used as part of a performance. It must be a suitable instrument and it must be able to be performed."

"To decide what is a good tea bowl is a vexed question in itself. In fact, there are many questions."

Master Ohi Chozaemon XI - Workshop, Exhibition and Lecture

Workshop
January 25th and 26th - 2018

at Hideko Honma Atelier, São Paulo-SP.

Attending Master Ohi's workshop was a wonderful opportunity to deepen the knowledge about the chawan and the Japanese ceramic culture.

Very thoughtful and generous, Master Ohi made sure everyone had the experience.
I still had time to make a chawan, following Master Ohi's proposal.
